BizBuzz 2010 Format

BizBuzz 2010 will take a span of four weeks and it comprises a total of two rounds –
preliminary and final. The description details for the two rounds are as follow:

Preliminary Round (22nd – 26th March 2010)

The business case will be released to the participating teams and they will be subjected to a five-day period to engage and analyze the assigned case. At the end of the five days, each of the participating teams will submit a maximum two-page case analysis. After submission of the analysis to the organizers, it will then be vetted by our judging committee and the best ten case analyses will be selected to enter the final round.

Preliminary Round Judging Criteria

Teams will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  1. Analysis
    • Identified key problems
    • Used supporting facts/data
    • Drew accurate conclusions
    • Considered risk
    • Offered original insights
  2. Recommendation
    • Followed logically from analysis
    • Dealt with all issues raised
    • Used decision criteria
    • Showed sound business judgment
    • End result was practical/realistic
  3. Creativity and imagination demonstrated
  4. Presentation of written solution
    • Clarity and the quality of the writing

Final Round (13th – 15th April 2010)

In the final round of the competition, the selected teams will be given a second case for another round of analysis. This time, each participating team will be given a duration of three days. In this three-day duration, the team will be required to come up with a 2 page PDF proposal and a ten-minute PPT presentation for the final presentation session. A five-minute Question & Answer session will follow right after the end of the case presentation by each team. The presentation sequence for each team will be determined from an internal ballot by the organizing committee and all decisions made shall be final.

The proposals and PowerPoint slides will have to be submitted by the 15th of April 2010 2359 hours (GMT +8)

Final Presentation (18th April 2010)

The finals of BizBuzz 2010 will take place on the 18th of April 2010. This will occur in Beijing, China. Participants will present the PPT which they have prepared and will be given 10 minutes to make their presentation. This will be followed by a 5 minute question and answer by the judges. In the event that students are unable to be present for the final presentation, participants will be given the option to do a live video conferencing or submit a pre-recorded video which will be played during the finals for the judges. (Please kindly note that not all team members will have to make the presentation, a team member may make the presentation on the behalf of his or her team)

Details of the final presentation will be released after the 26th of March 2010

Team Composition

  • Each team must consists of between 3-5 members
  • Team members must be a student of a university who are currently pursuing a course of study at the time of the competition.
  • The competition is open to all university students, regardless of course of study.

Submission requirements

  • All teams are required to submit a maximum 2 page PDF version business case analysis of the business case.
  • Submission are to be in English language
  • Format of the PDF document: Times New Roman, Size 12, Single-spacing
  • Proposals are to be directly submitted online through Bizbuzz.info
  • Deadline for the submission of proposals will end on the 26th of March (2359 hrs GMT +8)

[Note: The two page PDF proposal excludes appendices. Figures, plates and tables may be included in the appendix where necessary to elaborate certain details but usage must not be excessive]

Disqualification

  • The organizer reserves the right to disqualify any teams who violate the rules, regulations or spirit of the competition

Confidentiality

  • Participants retain all proprietary rights to the business cases plans. Copies of the business case proposals will only be circulated for judging purposes, and any hard copies will be returned by the judges to YEAN after the judging is completed. All business case proposals received for the Competition will then be deleted and destroyed.
  • A one page summary (to be contributed by the team) of the business plans that reach the Semi-Final may be featured in the souvenir booklet, which will be distributed at the Final, as well as targeted media releases.
  • Although the agencies respect the propriety rights of the participants and will endeavour to protect their rights, the organiser will not enter into any non-disclosure statements of agreements with any parties.

Overseas participants

In the event that the participants who made it into the final round but are unable to attend the event in Beijing, a live video conference will take place. Arrangements will be made with the participating team for the video conferencing. If the participating team is unable to obtain live video streaming, a pre-recorded video may also be submitted with the option for a phone dial in for the question and answer session. Participants who are unable to make it for the video conferencing or phone dial in may forfeit their score for the presentation and question and answer section.
